Riverview School District Announces
Fall 2020 Reopening Plan
After reviewing information from Public Health - Seattle & King County, ongoing collaboration with surrounding school districts, and analyzing potential school re-opening options, the Riverview School District is planning to open the 2020-21 school year in a Remote Learning Model (referenced below as Plan A).
Last spring required an unprecedented shift for students, families, and staff members, as we worked to deliver an instructional model with little time for preparation. The knowledge gained through our spring experience, community feedback, and the May/June Thoughtexchange responses of our students, staff, and community have been incredibly helpful in designing a stronger Remote Learning instructional model for the opening of the 2020-21 school year.
As we have learned throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, re-opening plans are subject to change and require School Board approval. Decisions by the Governor's Office, Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, and/or Public Health - Seattle & King County may impact our current plan.
REMOTE LEARNING (*exceptions for identified students noted below)
Students will engage in learning during meetings with assigned teachers online and will work independently between meetings.
A school schedule based on a typical school day will be determined for each grade/content level. Schedules for students will be forthcoming.
- Students identified for targeted support will attend school for specialized services (examples include Preschool, PAIVE, iSet, Life Skills, Level 1 or 2 English Learners). Schedules for identified students will be forthcoming.
- Kindergarten will meet according to an A (Monday and Tuesday) or B (Thursday and Friday) schedule, which will allow the physical distancing necessary for kindergarten learning. Students with last names beginning with A-K will attend on the A days. Students with last names beginning with L-Z will attend on the B days.
- Learning Management System (Seesaw K-2 and Skooler 3-12) is where teachers, students, and parents will go for planning, assignments, and messaging.
We will also share plans on additional learning models when physical distancing requirements can properly accommodate in-person instruction once again.
As we have stated in previous communications, surveys were intended to be sent to our staff and families, prior to releasing formalized plans on school in the fall. With the increase in COVID-19 cases around our region and community transmission reaching renewed levels of spread, we are moving forward with Remote Learning planning, allowing our Riverview community the opportunity to begin making their plans now. Surveys will be sent to our staff and families in mid-August.
Thank you to our Riverview community for their continuing support in a complex and challenging time.
