From time to time, the Riverview School District takes a moment to celebrate those who make our collective Riverview experience one of togetherness, kindness, and inclusiveness. With the Bridge Builder Award, the district celebrates those who help further the mission and goals of Riverview.

At the September 28, 2021 School Board meeting, two new Bridge Builder Award recipients, Greig Hicks and Todd Russell, were honored and recognized for their dedication and commitment to Riverview, and specifically ensuring that our schools, classrooms, buildings, and district look as stellar and professional as possible.

Greig Hicks

Greig Hicks was honored for 35 years of service to the Riverview School District as a custodian and Grounds III maintenance staff member. Described as a “servant leader,” Riverview Superintendent, Dr. Anthony Smith, shared that Greig “has distinguished himself as a hard worker with a positive attitude that models ‘the Riverview Way’ in all his actions.” Greig was also celebrated for his years of mentorship and training, with Dr. Smith adding, “Greig has been more than willing to mentor students that have passed through Riverview's doors during his 36 years of work in Riverview. You have been an inspirational force Greig!”

Todd Russell

In five years, Todd Russell has made a significant and positive impact on everyone he meets – students, families, staff, and administration. Often praised for being an effortless motivator with an incomparable work ethic and smile for all he meets, Dr. Smith shared that Todd, “…comes to work every day with a high motivational level toward excellence, a smile on his face, and an infectious positive attitude. He has helped raise the standards and consistency in custodial practices, district-wide, both as a custodian and a custodial trainer.”

The Bridge Builder Award consists of a lapel pin and poem, presented by the Superintendent, in loving memory of Donna Polacek, the District Personnel Director from 1992-1996, who went the extra mile to give much more than was expected to the staff and students of the district. Each recipient’s award is numbered and recorded with the reason for its being given, written in a special book kept by the Superintendent’s Office.

The award was initiated in 1997 and Greig and Todd are the 222nd and 223rd individuals, respectively, to receive Bridge Builder Awards.

Please join us in congratulating Greig Hicks and Todd Russell on receiving these incredible and prestigious honors.
