Interpreter Training Opportunities with PSESD to Support Riverview Students and Families

The Riverview School District is in need of interpreters to support our students and families. We are pleased to share that Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD) Multilingual Services will be offering fall trainings for interpreters on December 6 and December 9, 2021. This four-hour virtual training will prepare participants to serve as professional interpreters in an educational setting.

The PSESD training covers the fundamentals of professional interpreting, provides opportunities to practice in this role, and offers resources such as a code of ethics, tips on professionalism, and information about how to become certified as an interpreter (this course does not certify interpreters).

PSESD has designed this course to support those currently practicing as interpreters and those new to the role. The training is designed to be interactive, leveraging the experiences of those participating.

Interested parties can participate in the morning (from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) or in the afternoon/evening (from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.) on the dates highlighted above.

For those interested in working as an interpreter with the Riverview School District, we require an Independent Contractor form and completed W-9 forms as part of the application process. Completed applications are reviewed prior to being approved by the School Board. Once the application has been approved, interpreters are then placed on our list of approved contractors, from which the schools and programs hire from.

This cost to register is $25 per person. For those interested in signing up for a training on one of the days listed above, please either reply to this email message or contact Dr. Randy Stocker, Assistant Superintendent, Teaching and Learning (stockerr@rsd407.org) and a registration link will be provided.
