Superintendent's Message

September 2023

Dear Riverview Community,

It is hard to believe that I am heading into year two at the helm of this wonderful school district. It seems like just yesterday that I was winding down Novelty Hill Road on my way to an interview in a state I had never visited. I feel so fortunate to be here. And I continue to feel grateful to live and work in a wonderful community that has far exceeded any expectations I had on that first trek into the Snoqualmie Valley.

A lot has happened in a year. My team and I have worked through an Entry Plan designed to assess the current state of the district through observations, data analysis and, most importantly, listening to a broad array of stakeholders. As a result of the Entry Plan work, our team has made some changes designed to better support students and their families, staff, and administrators. We hired several new, strong leaders. We made some tough fiscal decisions designed to ride out the wave of the challenging economic times we are experiencing. And we have implemented several cost-neutral changes, such as eliminating contracted services in favor of hiring permanent employees.

As we move into a new school year, I am buoyed by the energy and commitment of our team. Our leaders, educators, and classified staff are second to none. I have never worked with a more dedicated, caring, and genuine group of individuals who are so thoughtful about ensuring that our students receive a world class education in an environment where everyone belongs.

I have one ask of our families and the broader community: please engage. Let us know how we are doing. If you are a parent or employee, please consider downloading the ParentSquare app on your smartphone. This is the most efficient way for us to get communication to you, particularly in an emergency. As the year progresses, we will be unlocking additional functions that will further streamline many of the day-to-day transactions related to schooling. If you are a community member, you can subscribe on the district website to stay abreast of district news and information.

I will continue to hold office hours on Friday afternoons this year. Please feel free to book an appointment to discuss questions, concerns, or ideas.

Here’s to a great year!
